Northwest Specialist Vet is owned and established by Dr William McCartney, who was Ireland’s first veterinary surgeon to offer full joint replacements to pets.
Like humans, animals’ hips and knees can become worn and painful over time as a result of excess use, general wear and tear, or traumatic injury. In extreme cases, where a full joint replacement is required, the Northwest Specialist Vet team can provide this.

Elbow Replacements

The main cause of elbow injury requiring replacement is Elbow dysplasia, a selection of hereditary diseases in dogs and cats that all lead to elbow arthrosis. While this can often be treated with general surgery and non-surgical intervention, we also offer elbow replacements where necessary. Full pet elbow replacements can also be offered to pets suffering from degenerative joint diseases, traumatic injuries, and severe deformities.

Hip Replacements

The hip is one of the most important joints in a mammal’s body, providing most of the power of the hind limbs while also having the largest range of motion of any joint in the body. Because of this, hip injuries or degenerative conditions can be extremely painful.
